Chelios injured

And the Wings' defense continues to get cut down. Chris Chelios took a puck to the inside of his right foot off a shot by Flames D Adrian Aucoin - who happens to have one of the hardest shots in the league - in the first minute of the game and missed most of the first period. Chelios was in obvious pain. He played a few shifts after sustaining the injury, kept attempting to walk off the pain down the concourse to the locker room, but eventually didn't come out to the bench after the midway point of the period. Everyone knows the grit and pain tolerance of Chris Chelios. To make him miss most of a period, the pain had to be something else. The Wings are without Nicklas Lidstrom (right knee), Brian Rafalski (groin) and Niklas Kronwall (clavicle) in this game.
