Red Wings 4, Stars 1
First off, I'm not sure I blogged this a few days ago (battling food poisoning in Phoenix), but Happy New Year everyone! Hope it's a happy and healthy one for everyone out there. Thoughts from tonight: 1) Nice move by the Wings organization to single out Mike Modano for his career mark from earlier in the year. Modano is a class figure in this league, and growing up in Westland, he's a credit to Michigan hockey. Classy move by the Wings. 2) 30 wins by the Wings in 41 games, the halfway point of the season. The organization has never had a better first half. This team has earned it, and deserves all the praise it's been receiving of late. 3) Fitting that guys like Drake and Downey were the stories for their first goal and point, respectively. Somebody comes up big every night. 4) Without Zubov (undisclosed) and Lehtinen (abdominal), the Stars looked very average out there. 5) Good for the NHL for producing a big-time event such as the Heritage Classic so well. The reviews have been largely very good. The ratings were fine. Everybody seemed to enjoy it. You can bet we'll see more of these in the future. For sure.
