Armchair traveling . . . as prep for the real thing
The first two installments were stunningly spectacular, indeed . . .
. . . enriched by painting-like scenes, poetic excerpts from John Muir and others, a Detroit-raised ranger talking about "transcendent experiences" and Dayton Duncan's largely cliche-free script.
When interviewees and the narrator speak of the parks as cathedrals, temples and sites with spiritual value, it doesn't sound hokey or stretched at all. Not with those landscapes on screen.
And yes, it's not hard to imagine thousands of 2010 vacation plans being made.

Winning a package to the Garland Resort is fantastic.

CyberSurvey: Turkey Day travel
Guess those of us that have travel trailers better get them on the road this year, cause after the government demands tin can cars, no one will be able to tow!
What a sad state of affairs in this Country!

Susan:
1) As one who NEVER travels East of Telegraph Road, nor South of 8 Mile Rd, spare this writer! Maybe, as a member of the liberal press where 98% of your ilk voted for our incompetent "neighborhood organizer" that is now our "President of the United States of America" that makes this writer nauseous as the "dems" are pooping the future of our children & grandchildren away, with $trillions and $trillions of budget deficits. This is at a time when only your type, or one of those $80,000 per year (semi-literate) UAW Janitors still can afford to travel.
2) Few senior citizens on fixed incomes and those on unemployment don't care nor will little remember what you think of ideal travel destinations in your over-inflated, self-image bubble about WHERE people should be spending their fixed incomes for travel when they're deciding whether to pay their bloated public-sector tax bill or to buy pet food at Walmart!
3) Go AWAY, already! 4) Sorry to hurt your "boomer" or "X-Gener" feelings, but go to church this Sunday and thank our GOD for a regular salary!WLeoB, Canton, MI
PS1: How many OTHER semi-literate imbeciles are there on a regular media salary, that are actually being paid every week for spewing fecal matter like this?
PS2: The City of Detroit is a septic tank! If you don't vote for Mr. Bing, you and ALL of the Detroit residents DESERVE ALL of the results of this next election!

Sue: I can so picture the bread van, the idealism, the spirit of that trip years ago--thanks for the memories! Oh, and yeah, I can also SO picture you taking Steve everywhere and saying you didn't drive all this way "not to see anything" in D.C.!! LOL.

Algonac
Susan, Take the ferry to Harsens Island and eat at the Sans Souci Bar. There you will be as close to the freighters as you can get anywhere on the Great Lakes and/or if you want to see what cottage life is really like drive down along the South Channel to Riverside Market and get a famous sandwich. Most of the cottages in that area can only be reached by boat. On your right on the way down will be beautiful Muscamoot Bay.
Enjoy our island!!

Smokey mountains
Well y'all know how to make a guy homesick. I used to love hiking through that area and reading about it really makes me wish I was back there if only for a little while. I like how you can make a person feel as if they were there with you. Anyhow take care and be safe.
Panda SiChuan
Sichuan, also called Shu, a Chinese glyph that means silkworm, witnessed silk clothing production at least 2,000 years ago. Sichuan is home of tea, distilled spirit, and varieties of food. Beautiful and won...
