Toronto Day 3-4

I waited two hours yesterday for a Michael Moore interview, so that sort of threw my schedule off, thus no blog.

This morning, though, I took in a movie that made me laugh virtually nonstop -- Ricky Gervais' "The Invention of Lying." And it wasn't just me, a packed house of industry and press types were howling. God, it was nice to lighten up after all the standard film fest doom and gloom.

The idea is this: In some alternate universe, everyone tells the truth, no matter what. This in itself sets up a hilarious opening scene between Gervais and his blind date, Jennifer Garner. But eventually Gervais invents the concept of lying -- which ends up changing the whole world.

OK, the romantic comedy part of it peters out toward the end, but the jokes are steady, the commentary witty and Gervais' halting style and high-squeak exclamations are priceless.

And Garner proves again that she's just gold if you give her the right role. She does the innocent harsh honesty thing to perfection, and yet she brings on emotion with a rush when needed.

I'm off to see "Youth in Revolt" now, then I talk to Abbie Cornish of "Bright Star." Then I walk down the street to the Royal Ontario Museum where assumedly Tyler Perry and Oprah herself will show up to promote the hard-hitting "Precious," one of the few festival breathtakers so far.

Tomorrow I talk to Gaby, the star of "Precious," Michael Cera from "Youth," and Vera Farmiga who stars with Clooney in "Up in the Air." Frankly, the woman's scary she's so smoothly perfect in whatever she does.

Anyway, hopefully there will be time to blog near the end of the day.

By the way, talked to Drew Barrymore yesterday. I've never seen such exhausted beauty. She's working "Whip It" hard.
