Band wagon?

From Boston. . All this talk about Magglio - but what about Placido Polanco?

Is there a band wagon rolling for him as well? The guy is sizzling again, three more hits in Monday night's loss after a .433 homestand.

Polanco can be a free agent after the season. Would you resign him? And for how long?

Band wagon?

I would definitely re-sign Polanco!

First: defense, defense, defense. He is a vacuum cleaner at 2nd base and he's another another big error-free streak.

Second: despite his slump this year, he still is a good #2 hitter.

Third: Sizemore at AAA is not ready to take over as the everyday 2nd baseman at the major league level. Ideally, he makes the team next year and plays at least one year behind Polanco.

The trouble is that I'm sure Polanco is going to look for a 3-year deal. That's too much. The Tigers should offer him 2 years maybe with a club option for a third.

Tom Gage- Polanco

Quit confusing Tom Gage with all this talk about Type A free agents.

Tom Gage- Polanco

As of yesterday, Polanco was hitting .340 since the break. I guess he doesn't get as much attention because he doesn't have an $ 18 million option that some of us foolishly dream of DD spending on free agents. I am on record saying that I'd definitely offer arbitration to Polanco. He is still about the best defensive second baseman in the league, and the steadiest, even if not the flashiest infielder on the team.

One thing to keep a close eye on is whether Polly's second half surge pushes him up to "Type A" free agent status in Elias rankings. It could be very difficult for him to find a contender to give up a first round pick AND give him a multi- year contract. Like Juan Cruz, Orlando Hudson, and Orlando Cabrera, he may have to take a deal from a bottom 15 team that only gives up a second round pick for him.

DD should definitely offer arbitration. He'd get about a one year, six million dollar deal, and I think he's worth that even if his hitting is about what he's done this season. If he accepts, we have another season to groom Scott Sizemore. If he walks, we get one or two very good draft choices to restock the farm system.

I would not bring back Everett. Get a shortstop with at least the ability to get on base and run.
