Jerebko is Swedish for hustle

Many of you are probably not paying much attention to the Pistons and I understand that.

They are not exactly burning up the league but there is someone worth checking out. During this rash of injuries Jonas Jerebko has stood out. He is a 22 year-old rookie from Sweden and does not play for the Red Wings. He is a basketball player and a good one.

The Pistons may have found a second round steal in Jerebko. He hustles, crashes the boards and has a nice outside shot that is beginning to fall. He's been able to get his chance to shine because of injuries to Tayshaun Prince, Ben Gordon and Rip Hamilton.

He is the Pistons version of hustle and flow.

The Pistons are decimated with injuries. The good news, however, is Jerebko has turned into a go to guy at times. He reminds me of former Piston John Mengelt, a guy they called "Crash." Jerebko is what we call an energy guy in the NBA.

One thing that benefits him is the rest of the league does not know about him and players do not respect him. The other day Al Thornton of the Los Angeles Clippers kept telling Jerebko that he could not shoot. He did not back down or cower.

The Swede simply told him "I can shoot. My shot just isn't falling yet.

That night Jerebko made it rain when he scored a career high 22 points.

This season he is averaging 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds, but in his last two games he has averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds and is a joy to watch. He has stepped up when some veterans have disappeared.

"I guess I take my moments," he said the other night.

I like this guy. He won't make us forget Nick Lidstrom but he is a Swede making an impact in our sports world.

Jerebko

If Jerebko can stay consistent and reliable he will be a mainstay here.

Maybe he will become the player Joe had in mind when he drafted Carlos Delfino.

I am still hoping for a lottery pick... However with the wealth of free agency coming up. If the Piston's show they are a solid team - it could be Joe's main selling point next to their cap space.

Jerebko

I am a huge Piston fan and I have been paying a lot of attention.....Jerebko is the "real deal"....

Joe D did great in acquiring him....

Love the team this year.....they play with a lot of heart and determination.....lots of talent....

Once they get past all of these injuries.....( and I pray that they do).....we are going to be a tough team...and the future looks very promising...and THAT is what this year is really all about..the Future!

Go Pistons
