Talk about politics and transparency...geez DN. It's SO obvious the has-been that lost the MEDC account to the agency in question tipped you off here. Seriously, don't the Kwame Chronicles provide you with enough "corruption" fodder? Do us all a favor and leave one of the few remaining and thriving ad agencies in metro Detroit alone, will you? When it's all said and done, the agency is doing a fantastic job of enticing businesses to come to this cesspool. You, one the other hand, are merely adding to the cess. Without advertising... well... look at what happened to your paper? Enough said.

WHY IS OUR GOVERNMENT ALLOWING THESE MOVIES STARS (WHO ARE overpaid anyways)TO GET AWAY WITH NOT PAYING THEIR TAXES?!?!?!? They should not be allowed to work until their taxes are paid...WHAT, are they above the law??? Also they should pay fines, because SHAME on them for not paying...Our government is way too easy on the law. Other countries go to one extreme and the US is way too lenient....WAKE up AMERICA...JUSTICE needs to prevail...This is outrageous...

hey wats goin down chief. i gots a few hoses from a friend and thies need some repares. i bin rettin out for for yers and my peeple trien to not pay the tab. my boy bin doin them taxes in middle for the time while his boys workin on um but he outa town for 18 monts. how i go about gettin loan to to get them lones on them so i git a ruff may bee few them windows. i also need git thaose furnass in tha one two. git all chinda paper worck on um jist need durection to wit um. hep me owt if yuo cowld bro. got a cuz don at the city tryinn ta hehp. give me the biz da dogh all good jis nede the incide .
Darryl and his Debt
I wish Darryl nothing but good luck in his new life, and hope's he's able to take care of these debt problems before they cause him any trouble. One of the key components of most recovery programs, is making amends so I don't see anyway that Strawberry will be dodging these creditors if he is truly leading a life of recovery these days.
Lenny Dykstra, Ron Darling, and now Darryl all having financial difficulties recently. I guess it's just all the bad karma that those 1986 Mets had saved up from cashing in on that ball going through Bill Buckner's legs.

Patterson Hated For Giving Away Suburban Taxes
Council woman Cockrel said that the city has spent over $10 Million over the past six years to monitor their police department so that Detroit citizens could get good service and Detroit could get control of crime. It's clear that the money achieved nothing, and the lawyer who is running it was schtooping the Mayor.
Once again the citizens of Detroit are given the short end of the stick by the corrupt politicians who have convinced Detroiters that they are protecting Detroiters from the real enemy: the suburbs.
That's right - the suburbs. It's hilarious if you think about it. The Mayor is fooling around with everything that walks, and what he isn't stealing with pay to play is being used to pay off policeman to keep them from testifying, or to pay East Coast lawyers who were contracted to improve the police department for doing nothing.
Monica, Martha, Joann and Barbara Rose are singing," We Will Overcome," while the suburbs try their darndest to give them taxes to fix Cobo Hall. Meanwhile no one is asking why they are spending millions over several years and the police service is not improving.
Fighting with the suburbs is the biggest problem Detroit has. Not only does the actions of their politicians drive away suburban spending and suburban investment, but it becomes an election ruse that allows corrupt politicians an easy path to power. You don't actually have to prove that you will improve the city to get elected, you just have to tell Detroiters that you will protect them from the suburbs and you skate through the election.
The strangest part is that there is no reason for it. Is any other city paranoid about its suburbs? What have the suburbs done to deserve to be feared?
Detroit was proud of itself for sending Governor Engler back to Lansing when he offered to fix broken school districts. They boasted about how they had fought off the enemy. Here was living proof that the outsiders did in fact want to take over, like Coleman Young had said so many times, and they protected their borders. Even though it was ten years ago, I heard a woman bragging about it during the Kwame controversy on TV.
So now another ten years of Detroit school children are stolen from, have no money for textbooks, or even toilet paper if you can believe it. And the state sends in a black man to do what they had tried to do ten years ago, and its okay because the man is black. Maybe they would have sent a black man ten years ago, and hundreds of thousands of kids may have had a chance at a better education.
Detroiters even fool themselves about the condition of their city. It has been called by filmmaker Michael Moore, " a landscape from another planet." During the Final Four tournament, an out of town writer called it," embarassing filth." When asked what Iraq was like, a TV newsperson said it was," actually nicer than Detroit."
When the corruption gets out of hand (more than normal), Detroiters will respond by voting for a Dennis Archer or Dave Bing. But almost immediately you hear comments like "Uncle Tom" and "acting white." It seems Detroiters aren't happy unless their politicians are fighting with the suburbs. Ever since blacks became the majority, they were weaned on fighting with the suburbs for decades by Coleman Young. They can't live without it.
To Detroiters, the world can be going to heck in a handbasket but it won't matter if they have someone in power standing up to someone in the suburbs. L. Brooks Patterson, or any Republican for that matter, are their favorite targets. Meanwhile Patterson is putting his job on the line by giving away suburban taxes during a deep recession to fix a building in another city, Cobo Hall.
Maybe someday Detroiters will realize there is nothing to fear in the suburbs, and in fact there are many people who live there that would like to see the city improve. Maybe someday they will realize that the real enemy is their politicians who use the suburb fights to get elected, then steal them blind. Maybe, but I doubt it. It's too much fun hating on a group that actually supports you.
TAX BREAK FOR GM? SEND EM PACKING!
Let's get Monica Conyers involved in this GM move to Warren. There is nothing Detroit city residents like more than a politician who tells suburban investors, or even politicians with free tax money (Cobo), to stick it where the sun don't shine. Self sabotage is the one skill Detroiters have mastered.
Whether it's the 'Don't Snitch' policy that ensures dangerous criminals remain loose on the streets, or whether it's heckling those hard workers among them who are trying to succeed by accusing them of 'acting white,' I'd put Detroit up against any inner city in the country when it comes to self sabotage.
Electing politicians who appeal to Detroiters with the promise that they won't let the white devil from the suburbs come in and take over has special appeal to the self saboteurs. The reason this trick works so well because politicians who lower themselves to this little trick invariably end up proving to be completely corrupt. What better way to sabotage yourself and send your city reeling?
Many of you will ask," Why would any group of people want to sabotage themselves?" While polling friends and acquaintances, there is only one plausible explanation that keeps surfacing.
That theory is that Detroiters don't want to work. They don't want to improve themselves; they don't want to get up early every morning; they don't want to be told what to do; they don't care if they live in filth. If it takes self sabotage to keep others around them down too, then so be it.
Many hate to see others improve, work and succeed because it makes them feel inadequate. They'd rather sit in some ramshackle home and blame white people for their plight.
Is there any merit in this explanation that keeps surfacing? From where I sit, it is hard for me to say but I don't have a better answer. Immigrants have come here with nothing and worked their way out of poverty throughout history. Those who have succeeded are able to keep it through hard work. I'm not sure there is any other way.

This article is a joke and Robert Snell should be a little more concerned about his lack of journalism skills than about a local pro athelete's property tax bill which was obviously a misunderstanding. Chelios gives back to the community, he's not a deadbeat, so why throw dirt on him by writing this crap in the newspaper?
