Hey, Grasshopper ...

Chris, "Small Tent, Small Mind" was already taken by the DNC? DANG it, thought I'd get some royalties...Cheers, Mako out.

Just more bull in 2009...

TDC, Florida and Texas will be the bellwether for 2010. If Governor Perry can push through with more than 10 points, and Rubio eliminates Gov. Crist, we may have quite a scene for the next national election. Cheers, Mako out.

Just more bull in 2009...

The hypocrite roll of 2009 is the incumbent GOP party that continues to believe they somehow represent independent voters. They're still the representatives of "core" Bush policy, and they continue to believe their own hot air doesn't smell. Likely because the air in Washington smells like Houston's brown paper (no offense to Jan), no one notices the stink from both parties. Or wait, just because I don't attack the Dems, means I am one? Sounds like a Republican to me. (And btw, sarcasm seems to not run very well when you're all po'd and reactive about other members in your party "poisoning the water hole"). Small Tent, Small Mind. Mako out.

Hi-larious. Okay, so I'll bite on your theory. For the record, I didn't even know I was challenged to it. I apologize if I skimmed over your brewing glove slap. And honestly, if that's all you've got...

McCain's strategy (let's assume "Victory", like actually garnering more voters than Obama) was flawed from the start.

The GOP tacked hard to the right when McCain was trying to tack to the middle. The strategy failed when Palin became a greater populist candidate than the war hero, then proceeded to try and run for President while he was still running. Then, all the years of building a strong middle-of-the-road platform fell apart. Logistics, contacts, in-the-tank media, all imploded. When he tried to change pace, tactics, mavericking, suspending, he pulled a Kerry in the late months of the election and blew it.

As for bowing, if you have to go online to learn about it, kudos. But using about.com as evidence against years of growing up, you really should learn how to google better (btw, thanks for googling my name as well, as apparently you did). Post your full name as well, eh? Mako out.

Nation of Laws

Chris, do a little research on the ten individuals reviewed for this process. Of the ten, five were referred back to the military tribunal system. What's similar for all five of those who are going to Manhattan?

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
Walid Muhammed Salih Mubarak Bin Attash
Ramzi Bin Al Shibh
Ali Abdul-Aziz Ali
Mustafa Ahmed Al Hawsawi

I think you'll be intrigued to figure it out for yourself, because they all share "experiences". Mako out.

Bowing to ignorance...

And as I just mentioned with Libby's light switch moments, the action of the President was humble.

Libby shotguns a reason that has nothing to do with the other. He bowed purposely low to show respect. He was giving props to his Japanese counterpart in the face of China on the next leg of his tour.

Only in the past few decades, the Emperor received a standing bow, and not a kneeling, groveling bow as it used to be.

The Chinpokomon generation of conservatives really need to try harder. While America stood in horror of such a deep bow, most of us were watching this: http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/254168/?tab=featured Mako out.

Chris, it's telling that your only comebacks are ad hominem attacks. Explain why McCain aides are defending themselves against a powerful public political figure. Explain why people are outed and thrown under the bus almost in the same manner as some say Palin was late in October 2008.

Incumbents are in trouble in 2012, and moreso, House seats in 2010. I think the scope of the conservative movement will culminate in Texas in March 2010. If they don't have momentum, they're going to get crushed by their own party in November. As states regress into their own problems, the scope of a national race will focus on successful state governors who emerge from the recession. In 2010, everyone's a wildcard, but in 2012, as some expect the economy to recover in a visible manner, the states that are in position for growth will be the viable contenders.

And for the record, I support Libby in all her light switch remarks. You should support the moments she does make a good point, but all you want to do is tear other people down. Enjoy. Mako out.

knowing they could run into problems with evidence to convict

Todd, plea deals actually are the foundation of this whole legal situation today. During WWII, 8 German infiltrators invaded the US. Two of the 8 actually sold out the other 6, and copped a plea to reduce their sentence(Ex parte Quirian). There's a lot more to this, as this case is specifically used as the foundation for many of the SCOTUS opinions that show the Executive Branch doesn't have the right for indefinite detention, and the right of due process. Specifically, Hamdan v. Rumsfeld indicates that any appeal that the SCOTUS grants cert for consideration will be decided in that future fashion. In fact, recent court rulings are suggesting that the immediate processing of Al-Marri signals that the Administration knows that they have to prosecute and process their detainees: http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2009/February/09-ag-177.html

I'm still reading up on why AG Holder went with a federal court for KSM, because I believe the decision of Al-Marri is related to why the Obama Administration is headed in this direction, because before this, SCOTUS approved cert to hear Al-Marri's 4th Circuit COA appeal.

After AG Holder asked the case be dismissed (in light of pursuit of a federal indictment against Al-Marri), the case magically disappears, and SCOTUS lets the case go: http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/al-marri-overruled/#more-8895

My assumption is that the Obama Administration is going to process these terrorists under this kind of plan, perhaps expediently considering Al-Marrif, and then have "no reason" to keep Gittmo up once the sentencing is completed, or removing the angle of attack the opposition created.

An interesting note as well, Al-Marri pled not-guilty before the civilian court before pleading guilty to one count a month later. Will his name be listed as a witness for the prosecution of KSM? Mako out.

Not again!

Deference of respect is impressive, and likely a show of humility for the honor of the country he's visiting. Silly "Gaijin" aren't expected to bow properly. In fact, it's a sign of a high form of butt-smooching to honor the figurehead, especially when he's asking for economy to save him here. I think the Japanese got a kick out of it. Cheers, Mako out.

KSM, a very dangerous man, could walk Mako

I agree, Todd, KSM could walk. There's no doubt in my mind that legal underpinnings we've enacted created the foundation for it. What I fear is the legal logistics that the MCA created in 2006 that ultimately released Hamdan and Khadr in a military tribunal, which leads me to wonder if Holder's looking for the best scenario he's got. I can't stress this point enough, and apparently, the AG himself as well.

AG Holder, at least to me, seems to have decided to go the route that gives him the most success in nailing down KSM, and most definitely a Eukanuba show.

CP, I refer the USS Cole to John Ashcroft:

http://fl1.findlaw.com/news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/cole/usalbadawi051503ind.pdf

Coupled with KSM's tribunal hearing transcripts, I think the court will strongarm KSM's defense without release of classified intel.

http://www.defenselink.mil/news/transcript_ISN10024.pdf

That last link lists the 31 flavors of evil that KSM lists in his written statement to the tribunal hearing. That only leaves torture statements as a wildcard. Mako out.

Laugh now, Chris, but wait for the hijack of your party at another's vanity. One of the times I do agree with Newt is when it comes to national politics. He's warning y'all not to do it. Don't go rogue. Shifting in 2010 may occur, but not from a standpoint of success in elections, which will guarantee your nightmare in 2012. And as for not supporting Palin, I'm a shill of the left? I'm cool with that, I suppose. Cheers, try harder. Mako out.

Happy shopping...

And in that, perhaps, a question of urban centers and CP's statement re: small-group socialism for survival, comparatively with large-scale privatism and harmonious chaos?

As of late, without urban regeneration from its own people, we inherit Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore, and a question of gentrification in the past 3 decades. Cheers, Mako out.

KSM to Manhattan?

CP, as to the question in process of the extradition of KSM to the US, was it solely a military operation? If KSM was extracted in an improper manner, in deference to the MCA, then perhaps a shift of the Obama Administration to secure at the least a proper trial? Is Holder actually hedging here, because he knows if a military tribunal (that would be defined under MCA) will possibly result in dismissal of charges? And that the emotion of a jury trial would sway public opinion? Bringing the case back to New York, the process of impartiality will obviously go with it.

To quote Mayor Bloomberg himself, a full-circle of justice?

In my mind, a deliberate decision to pursue civilian court for a possibly political sideshow rather legal mandate. After all, Congress answers in their legislation to SCOTUS (checks n' balances n' all). I'd like to see what Holder is holding here, because I believe their actions a result of deliberate logic in the scope of the MCA. Cheers, Mako out.

Happy shopping...

Duly noted, Chris. As of late, a lot of RINOs are "entertaining" the process to offset their deficits. All of them, naturally are in moderate states with large urban populations. I wonder, too, if there is a correlation to that "fattest city" and the proponents of the tax. Cheers, Mako out.

Fri. 11/13/09 11:18 PM

KSM to Manhattan?

I agree. The irony of this situation might be that the legislation passed (the MCA) actually forced the hand of military tribunals, and the only remedy for moving forward is to apply civilian courts to the process. If these fellows were tried under the system that freed Hamdan and Khadr, I wonder if a greater injustice would've occurred. Mako out.
