Libby Spencer - Retraction/Correction Needed
Libby Spencer wrote in part "a few days ago a Port Huron newspaper was threatened by an angry conservative who called in and said she was going to go all Ft. Hood on their office because they dared to print an editorial criticizing Candice Miller"
Ms Spencer..from your own source "The Gannett daily's Web site stated that a call came into a Gannett customer service center in Louisville, Ky., from a 60-year-old unidentified woman last Thursday."
There was no identification of the womans political affiliation. Your claim that she was a "conservative" is not supported by any factual evidence

What Health Care Reform will mean
While Libby Spencer tries to follow the party line and change the subject, the US Senate will soon vote on health care "reform" legislation. The Abortion and Public "option" are not the aspects of the plans to worry about.
Bottom line..Choice will be restricted, taxes will be going up, deficits/spending will increase. But maybe we will all be miserable "equally"?
The legislation in question has some common themes..all of which are incredibly bad. These include:
1) Government mandated coverages. A young person will be forced to purchase insurance with the same provisions as a family, or older person. You only want to purchase catastrophic coverage..too bad The government knows best
2)Guaranteed insurance / community rating. Under the legislation being considered, no one can be denied coverage for "pre existing conditions" That by itself isn't too bad. However the prescribed "community rating" means that everyone pays the same. If you are in shape, and take care of yourself, you pay the same as a obese, chain smoking drunk. Anyone care to guess what is going to happen to insurance rates once these mandated changes kick in?
3) Forced participation. The plans will force everyone to purchase insurance of pay a "fine" The "fine" is a joke, initially in the range of a few hundred dollars. So why would any intelligent person purchase insurance? Pay the fine and wait until you get sick to purchase insurance. The company cannot deny you coverage, and cannot charge you more for your "pre-existing condition". Again the consequences will be increased insurance premiums for those with non government provided health insurance.
In addition, this aspect of the legislation is blatantly unconstitutional (imo) Taxes are legal. Forced purchase of a product / service as a condition of citizenship is not.
4) Employer mandates. The legislation requires employers to provide insurance with the government required benefits, * or* pay a fee of 8% of payroll to the Feds.
So ..when the cost of employer provided insurance increases (due to the government mandates) beyond the 8% tax the government demands, guess what employers will decide to do in most cases?
5) Medicare reductions. The Senate plan "pays" for its largese in no small part with future medicare cuts. I'll stick my neck out that the Medicare cuts will never happen, as the fund will already be bankrupt in less than a decade.
The deficits will explode as more people than planned go to "government care", and the medicare cuts will never happen.
Why the 'dems and progressive/leftists are pushing this debacle appears to be for control and power. There are myriad of ways to reform the current system without such a strong arm approach.

Mako wrote in part "The hypocrite roll of 2009 is the incumbent GOP party that continues to believe they somehow represent independent voters. They're still the representatives of "core" Bush policy, and they continue to believe their own hot air doesn't smell.
Mako..The GOP needs to decide what it is. Is it a moderate 'dem lite, or will it stand for something significantly different.
If it plans on appealing to so called "independents" its doomed to be a minority party for a long, long time (imo) If the party were to actually stand on fiscally sound principles (balance the budget, a coherent energy policy,no earmarks, etc...) the base will rally, and the "independents" will follow.
Why vote for 'dem lites when you can vote for the real thing?

Mako " Small Tent, Small Mind."
The "middle of the road" is one of the best ways to get run over. 2010-2012 *should* be fantastic opportunity for the GOP. The candidate of "Hope and Change" lurches to the left, and if his legislation passes will create serious economic problems in the years to come (imo). Alas..the Loyal opposition doesn't have a lifeline left to buy a clue on how to lead and win.

"Today, just before jumping on Air Force One for his nine-day trip to Asia, the president announced that he'll convene a "jobs summit" in December. Amid rising joblessness, the summit will ostensibly aim to figure out ways to create new jobs and stem the flow of recession-induced layoffs. The president will invite CEOs, economists, unions, and small-business leaders to meet with administration officials at the White House to discuss the issue. "
With all of the uber Keynesian "stimulus" passed by the 'dems and the President, why does he need a "jobs summit" to figure out what to do? Unions are great at featherbedding, but don't create real long term jobs.
The President is still trying to formulate a Afghanistan policy, and his economic policies have not improved the employment situation.
Anyone still think "Hope and Change" without experience is the way to go?

"Obama warned the United States' climbing national debt could drag the country into a "double-dip recession," though he said he's still considering additional tax incentives for businesses to reverse the rising unemployment rate.
"There may be some tax provisions that can encourage businesses to hire sooner rather than sitting on the sidelines. So we're taking a look at those," Obama told Fox News' Major Garrett.
"I think it is important, though, to recognize if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession."

Public Opinion doesnt support Congress Health Care "Reform"
From http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2009/11/health-care-poll-results-depend-on-the-reader.html
The AP poll found that more people (43%) oppose the health care plans being discussed in Congress compared with 41% who support it. The Washington Post poll found similar results (49% opposed compared with 48% in support) as did a Gallup poll last week that we told you about here.

Libby Spencer wrote in part "I, for one, applaud AG Holder's decision to bring some of the Gitmo detainees to trial here in the US courts.
I doubt you will choose to reply to this..but why do you support the administrations position of trials in civilian courts for some alleged terrorists, and Military Tribunals for others?
Wouldn't civilian trials for *all* alleged terrorists be a consistent "Liberal" position?

"Fed officials warn weak recovery won't spur jobs"

" Unemployment likely will remain high for the next several years because the economic recovery won't be strong enough to spur robust hiring, Federal Reserve officials warned Tuesday.
The cautionary note struck by the presidents of regional Fed banks were the first public remarks by Fed officials since the government reported last week that the nation's jobless rate bolted to 10.2 percent in October. It marked only the second time in the post-World War II period that the rate surpassed 10 percent."

" Job openings are at rock-bottom levels, according to government and private surveys released Tuesday, a trend that could keep the unemployment rate high even as layoffs slow.
Small businesses in particular are reluctant to add workers as they struggle to obtain credit. Many are pushing their current employees to produce more. Economists say small businesses account for about 60 percent of new jobs."

Libby Spencer wrote in part "Caving to the GOP isn't going to win any Republican votes, nor will it impress the swing Independents who respect courage over cowardice. The bottom line for Democrats is, everybody is going to wail and complain about change. However, if they boldly deliver good liberal policies that actually improve their constituents lives, the voters will reward them in the end. If they don't, the Obama voters of 08 are simply not going to show up and the conservative minority will win by default.
If you *ever* look at a credible source of election analysis, you will realize that your post is about 180 degrees out of phase.
There are very few "Good Policies" in the House health care take over, and the polls show that the voters are against it. The results of "good liberal / uber keynesian economic policies have resulted in a a 10% unemployment rates. The President dithers about Afghanistan policy, while a domestic terrorist kills our people.

Ms Spencer " I won't ever get prostate cancer, so I don't want my tax dollars going to fund men's health issues. You see where that logic leads?
Cancer is a disease. Different types of cancer affect the genders differently. However being a disease, its covered under most insurance programs, including the House version of Pelosi/Obama care.
Abortion, like cosmetic surgery, is a elective procedure. The Stupak amendment insures that it will not be part of the government run insurance program.
If you want a face lift, or a abortion, pay for it yourself. Both are legal, but not provided at taxpayer expense.
I would recommend you refrain from using phrases like "where that logic leads" from your responses, as you clearly do not understand the concept.(imo)

House Passes Obama/Pelosi Care
http://www.detnews.com/article/20091108/POLITICS03/911080319/Michigan-Democrats-help-health-care-bill-squeak-through-House
"Washington -- Michigan's 15 House members split along party lines Saturday night on a health care bill that Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Menominee, praised for putting "us closer to the day when the cost of medical care no longer results in bankruptcy" but Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, warned would force Americans to "trade our family doctor for a Washington bureaucrat."
The bill passed 220-215 in a dramatic, unusual marathon that lasted deep into Saturday night, filled with passionate debate.
"With this historic vote we are closer to bringing relief to American families who are forced to decide whether they will pay the mortgage or their health insurance premium," said Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn, the lead sponsor of the legislation. "

Ms Spencer..YOUR side passed a $787 Billion so called "stimulus" and President Obama signed it on 2/17/2009. Since then unemployment has increased to a 26 YEAR HIGH 10.2%. Why hasn't YOUR legislation worked to improve the economy after 8+ months after being passed? Why is more deficit increasing "benefits" being passed out with no employment improvement in sight?
YOUR side contributed the lions share to last years record $1.4 trillion budget deficit..and just increased this years deficit by another $24 billion. You attacked Bush for his spending and deficits, why are you so silent about your sides spending now?
You whine and complain about the GOP that cannot stop a single piece of legislation if your party supports it, yet are silent when the 'dems act worse than the GOP did when they were the majority party.
Whne are you going to hold your side accountable for non success wrt employment, and trashing the economy with record deficits and debt?
