Tom Barrow, courageous
Tom Barrow was so courageous to enter the race for mayor of the city of Detroit. He was brave enough to put himself on the line. He did not allow his past to dictate his future. He stepped to the door of doubt and kept walking. He was willing to let the negative things be said and had faith in people that they would see past his two losses and a criminal conviction.
If Gray Brown had continued to seek the mayor's office as it was first rumored, he would have been mayor today. But his exploratory committee would not press their way through the door of doubt.
Four of the people running for council seats got more votes than Dave Bing and Tom Barrow came within 20,000 votes of winning with little money and less publicity.
We must wish Dave Bing well. He said he only wants one term, but he has changed his mind on a number of things, so he might run for a second term. He will be up in age, but so was Mayor Coleman Young when he served his last term.
