This is a change we can believe in. Our former president, George Bush, never viewed a single one the thousands of fallen heros who were returned home in the dead of night, having sacrificed their lives for a foolish military action he initiated himself. Yesterday, President Obama broke that barrier and spent the dark hours in Dover, in order to honor the returning soldiers that had died last week in Afghanistan.
White House correspondent Mark Knoller gave us his on the scene account this morning. He told us that Pres. Obama was at Dover for about 3 1/2 hours - departing at 4a.m. to return to the White House via Marine One. It's the first time the Commander in Chief has witnessed such a homecoming since the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq began. President Obama also met privately with families of the fallen Americans before offering his respects to the dead. ABC News has more details on the somber proceedings and TPM has a photo gallery here.
You'll recall that the reason we can see this now, is that Obama lifted the Bush era embargo against media attendance shortly after he was sworn into office. It's good to have a president now that gives more than lip service to honoring the troops and is willing to think long and hard before sending any more of them into harm's way.

History sucks for liberals
CG - I mod at a political forum that regularly "critiques" the site you link to here.
Let me know if you would like to join up and I can introduce you around.
a side note
CG, I was repeating Mark Knoller's tweets, who was on the scene as CBS WH correspondent. Check at the link I provided.
If you have a link from another reporter that was there that says he only met w/ one family, I'm happy to update the post with your link.
a side note
You say "soliders" and "families" in plural form. Only one family gave Obama permission for the photo op out of the 15. Please change your post to reflect the truth of the situation rather then what you want people to believe.
History sucks for liberals
Liberals bashing Bush for photo ops with dead
So once again the angry head of liberal hypocrisy rears up. The ban was instituted by George HW Bush during the Gulf war, and was CONTINUED by Liberal God President Clinton during his entire 8 years in office. None of the previous president turned the returning dead soldiers into a media photo op. Their visits were done in private to respect the families of the deceased. Thats right President Bush, Clinton, and W all did theirs without the glitzy photo ops. Did anyone happen to see his teleprompter there?
Libby
Libby,
I find your post extremely insensitive.
I'm embarrassed for you.
Libby
Libby ,now your using dead service members for your political points and acting like you know what Bush did and felt. How do you sleep.Oh but isn't great we can now watch them on TV come home draped in flags, they first must get permission from their family and from what I understand few grant it. These people have a higher sense of honor than you or I and I'm sure they would like you to honor them without using them for your twisted political points. This is no PR game for their family. Why not a blog on how those of us who hoped Obama would do like he said and bring them home.He HAS NOT DONE ONE THING DIFFERENT THAN BUSH where it matters. Have you noticed we have had more killed this month than ever in Afgan, how does that jive with your sick blog, more TV viewing.
Libby's calling...
Libby = White House Propagandist
Let's get this straight...
Those were soldiers killed during Obama's presidency... Right?
Soldiers killed executing Obama's strategy... Right?
Glad we got that straight...
