Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in Charlotte (MI)

HR 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act sponsored by Michigan's John Dingell, is the subject of great debate among small farmers in Michigan. At this first stop on his new Rural Tour, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, as well as Senator Debbie Stabenow and Representative Mark Schauer, faced tough questions about this proposed legislation and about confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in southwest Michigan. The event was held at the Country Mill, a cider mill owned by the Tennes family in Charlotte.
