That's pretty much right
In the case of the banks, at least a portion of that problem was to much government interference. The story is a bit different with the health insurance industry. That's not to say their all bad chaps. Certainly not. But when you have over a 1,000 setting policy, it's hard to manage an industry like that, very hard.
On the pay thing, the government doesn't have a legitimate interest to be involved in such matters round-table. Their might be some exceptions to that rule, but for the most part, that's for private industry to structure and compliment. The President should not have a say in that when the Board of Directors, shareholders and owners of any business can do it.
The government also has other options available to them. They can sell their interest in them. Maybe even restructure, sell or spin off stuff, and where there's a remedy to toss an executive by lawful means, they can do that to. Even replacing the board of directors in corporations if they have enough votes.
Obama raises false hopes in Middle East
I kind of agree with you there. Putting Israel's security first should be number #1 numero uno. I don't agree that his current plan really does that.
For one, the Israeli people don't want it. Bill Clinton tried a similar peace plan and it got Yitzhak Rabin assassinated. I don't think Benjamin Netanyahu will be so eager to follow down a similar path.
Wo Kemosabe :o)
Kemosabe - Federal Land in the Gulf of Mexico. A large portion of that so-called "land" is water. Just because it exists doesn't mean it can be drilled for oil and yes they did find what they think is a major deposit in the Gulf. There are things like rock formations they have to study so they can address the best way to develop it and other reasons. They have to build the logistics to route all that oil in place including pipelines, drilling platforms and rigging.
We could be turning coal into liquid fuel. The Democrats don't want it. We could be exploring the oil shale in the Green River formation with an expected yield of 800 billion barrels potential. The Democrats don't want to. There are deposits in the Pacific Ocean that could be explored. I have to sadly tell people that they don't want to explore that option either. They could fire up the West Coast of Florida to production in two years but the Democrats don't want to do that either.
Obama still doesn't get Detroit
Agreed. Supposedly Nancy Pelosi will be in Ann Arbor tonight. I bet she's met with protest. :o)
