Ignorance...

The people below don't realize (or just don't care about) is that the panel who made this decision consisted mostly of accountants, statisticians and bureaucrats.

The American Cancer Society is a non-profit group that includea a significant population of physicians and their claims are based on science.

Apparently some people prefer to have bureaucrats and politicians make health care decisions on their behalf.

"American Cancer Society Responds to Changes to USPSTF Mammography Guidelines"

""The American Cancer Society continues to recommend annual screening using mammography and clinical breast examination for all women beginning at age 40. Our experts make this recommendation having reviewed virtually all the same data reviewed by the USPSTF, but also additional data that the USPSTF did not consider."

I think that Finley has "hit the nail on the head" and the posters below are either ignoring opinions from REAL experts or are so enamoured with the idea of "free government health insurance" that they don't care about consequences...

THEY are the ones who should be ashamed of themslves...

Lansing Decisions = Punishment?

In lieu of trimming benefits and other administrative "fat" within state government (which would not be felt directly by taxpayers), could this Lansing's decision to make taxpayers directly "feel" the implications of the economic shortfall?

Is this a strategy towards making us more apt to approve additional funding for these purposes in the future?

Makes one wonder...

Bird in Hand - Part 2

Pursuant to my post below, GE also happens to be the parent company for all the NBC television networks.

NBC strongly endorsed the Obama campaign and now stands to make trillions of dollars from "Cap 'n Trade", "Stimulus Package" and other "green" legislation...

The CEO of GE (Jeffrey Immelt) also sits on Obama's energy committee. Does anyone else smell a rat?

Bird in Hand

The idea of "Green Jobs" has been greatly exaggerated and misused by politicians and environmentalists to make their agendas more palatable to the general public.

In reality these "green jobs" actually occur in offshore locations as "obsolete" technologies are forced out by "green" legislative mandates.

For instance, traditional light bulb manufacturing jobs in OH, KY and VA were cut due to "green" legislation in favor of compact flourescent bulbs, to be manufactured in China.

This is what the term "green jobs" actually represents...

DAC Talk

FlairDetroit...

Maybe you should go get some FACTS before you start pointing your hypocratic finger at others.

Conservatives, on average, give more to charitable causes than their liberal counterparts.

Let me accurate rephrase your closing statement:

Conservative: teach a man to fish so he can provide for himself

Liberal: steal a fish from someone and give to the man so he is indebted to you

GREEN JOBS

Wow! RBD sounds kind of mad, typing in all caps like that...

Too bad he's got zero facts to back him up...

I think Nolan's hit the target on this one...

Thoughts on Clunker Program...

Detroit has largely caught up in the quality, technology and fues economy race...

Too bad they have not caught up in the "perception" race with consumers. I think this is one of the key drivers behind the Clunker results and diminishing market share as a whole.

Over the past 2-3 decades, while the import nameplates were advertising quality and innovation (and delivering on that promise), Detroit was pushing rebates and financing deals simply to move metal. A strategy the domestic still depend on to this day...

While this is good for short-term sales, it's toxic to long-term brand perception and equity. So now we're "reaping what we've sown" over the past 20-30 years...

As a marketer, I can tell you that perception drives reality, not vice versa...

Politicians can likely tell you that as well...

BTW - did you see the Auto blog post about the non-US Ford Ranger? Nice truck! Would likely cut right into Toyota Tacoma's segment share... Too bad the feds make it tough to import it...

Maybe it will soon be more appealing to fly out of Flint...

The Truth

DAN:

The reason they scrap the vehicles is that this is really about pushing Obama's green agenda, not stimulating the economy. By taking these cars of the road they are supposedly reducing "carbon output" to help slow "man-made climate change", a sham if I ever heard one...

This is also why you have to trade-in and purchase certain types of vehciles.

If it were really about helping the economy or the auto industry, they would have opened the standards to ALL vehciles...

This is about Obama's push into smaller more fuel-efficient vehicles and nothing else...

"Secret Plot" = Dems Distraction from REAL Issues

I think you're all barking up the wrong tree. This program was killed before it even came to a point where Congress had to be informed.

Should Bush/Cheney have informed Pelosi every time they got the urge to visit the restroom?

Notice the timing of this "trumped-up" story, doesn't it seem to distract from the failure of Obama's "Stimulus" and pending votes on ObamaCare and Cap 'n Trade?

Wake up people!!

Finlay article re the President's emission ruling.

Emma's clearly an Obama Kool-aid drinker...

The best-selling categories for autos are still SUVs and trucks. Small and SMART cars have been promoted like crazy, but you don't see much market penetration do you? Hybrids are popular, when gas clears $4 per gallon, below that price point, you can't give them away...

Nolan's post is correct, but here's the rub. Mark my words...

I beleive that hybrids tiny fuel-efficient cars will not be viable with fuel under $4 per gallon. But wait until Obama's cap-n-trade system gets passsed.

Gas costs will skyrocket and these cars will suddenly become popular. And Obama and the enviro-nuts will take credit for their "ability to see the future".

It's not hard to predict the outcome when you can control all the factors...
