Killer deserves to fry
"Daddy no, Daddy,no daddy no" those words alone did me in when I read the story. As the child and at 15 years of age I can call him a child still. He was pulled out into the yard and a postal worker aimed a gun at the child and with no disregard, squeezed the trigger and with one simple movement, Laid to rest a little boy's idea of love he had for his Father. My goddness Detroit, what in the world is going on right now? Have we as a community reached a point where we quit caring, so bad that we have allowed things like this to happen in the first place? How did the family not see this coming? If he was a Postal worker, he had a t his beckon call ,,,,,FREE A MENTAL CARE system and time he needed it for himself and his family, All he had to do was ask!! Did not a single soul at school not see this was coming? WHY,WHY,WHY, This young man may have been who knows what, this is sickening, all I can do is cry right now, and ask why can't we all fix this? WE HAVE TO CARE MORE , DON'T WE?

SO GOOD LUCK WITH THE REST OF THE COUNTR LIKE ME WHO WORK 2 JOBS MAKE UNDER 20 A YEAR AND WILL BE SENT TO JAIL. THIS WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF US COMMUNISIOMTHANKS TO OUR LOOSER OF A PRESIDENT. GOD SAVE US ALL.
Why now Mr. Finley?
Having seen "honor killings" happen before this.
It is strange that you have not mentioned anything like this in the past when our citizens that belong to the religion of peace (ISLAM), do these things to their daughters?
Killer deserves to fry
While this is indeed a heinous situation, it strikes me as more-than-a-little curious that you would get so worked up about one father killing one child, when countless mothers kill their children every single day in this country, under the patently false use of the word 'choice'. Yet they walk away each time without doing one day in jail, and where is your outcry about this?
Certainly I cannot defend the allegations made about this man, as I am not an defense attorney. But murder is murder, and many other 'innocent' people of every age are also murdered in this state on a regular basis (which may or may not be covered by the local media, including your fine paper).
It is the opinion of this writer that the, "Oh, but we just may execute the wrong person" argument is nothing more than a red herring. No one is perfect, no court is perfect, no attorney is perfect. And while 'innocent' people continue to die every day, it should be overwhelmingly clear to any thinking person that NOT having a death penalty is sure not acting as much of a deterrent!
To answer you directly, Mr. Finley, you feed and clothe him because of your (and some other Michigander's) distaste for the death penalty, pure and simple.
As for the 'best health care', I call you out right here to prove that anyone in prison gets even whatever health care that you get, much less the 'best health care'. This is blatantly false, and a person in your position should know better, if you truly don't already.
All that being said, if this man is proven guilty in a court of law, as opposed to the court of public opinion like in this forum, then let the frying begin!

Nolan, we have some common ground here. Before the father is put to death, he should be compelled to undergo all scientific scrutiny that might help us understand what makes a monster like this. And if he can be of some medical benefit to others while living, use him for that too. Maybe he can redeem some small fraction of his life as an organ donor. Then once he's dead, use the rest of him for something good.
But, you put your finger on why the death penalty is so dangerous. What if you get the wrong guy? I'm not commenting on that risk in this case, but it is always a risk. And I have to say, eye-witnesses are not so entirely reliable. Even confessions are not reliable.
Very seldom do you have an absolute certainty of who did a crime, enough to kill a man. It is the ultimate mistake to make.
Breast Cancer article
BTW, here's another opinion on the proposal, this time by another pundit with absolutely no experience re: Breast Cancer screenings.
Oh wait, he's a breast imagining specialist with 20 years of experience. Let's see what he has to say:

Any rebuttals? And please, if you have less (or no) experience directly in the breast-imaging or oncology field, keep your rebuttals to yourself.

Nolan,
I could not agree with you more. This is a man who deserves to be hung in the center of the town square on Sunday at noon. Absolutely disgusting.
Bought and Paid For
Hey Nolan,
Make sure you report your income you get from the insurance industry. Just label it, bought and paid for while protecting greed.
"Obamacare"
Oh goody, another right winger against any kind of health care reform....and gee all with original thoughts. Yes we know, you are against any kind of reform, except trial lawyer reform and oh magically costs will be reduced, pre existing conditions will not matter, those that do not have health insurance will now be able to afford it. Lets just call it "Obamacare" (that way it will attract all those opposed to reform) and not talk substance. Fear fear fear thats all you get from Finley! How pathetic.
New Cancer Guidelines
Some future headlines from the AMA upon Obama's "All Health Left Behind" program:
"Cancer Schmantzer"
"Heart Attacks - Is it Your Heart or Maybe Just In Your Head?"
"AMA Double-blind, Placebo-Controlled Studies finds 89.6% of all Medical Issues Cured by Tic-Tacs"
/P.S. I voted for Obama. So suck it, libtards.
Findings of Breast Cancer Study
Okay--
So all of you who blasted Mr. Finley have correctly stated that insurance companies already do this (make decisions on what health care we receive). So the house just passed a 2074 page bill that gives the government the same powers as the insurance companies EXCEPT--that the government is in charge of rationing instead of these evil profit making insurance companies. The main difference is that the government rationing money is coming from us taxpayers. Please explain to me how this helps anybody? Maybe all of our idiot senators and congressmen need to really fix healthcare instead of just passing something to look good for 2 months. You Obama and before that Bush slappies need to wake up!!
Findings of Breast Cancer Study
The American Cancer Society needs to point out studies that demonstrate its point of view instead of fulminating, or in your case, demonstrating your Republican hack sensibilities.
Health insurance companies in America already ration health care by using adjustors and accountants to decide whether or not a claim will be paid. And if individual is going to cost the company too much, it will find the claim will not be paid or find that the company will drop him/her.
I suggest you take a look at Gail Collin's commentary on this matter at the New York Times. Someone as small-minded as yourself might find it enlightening.
Mammogram panel
You say this as if insurance companies don't already make these same decisions now and there aren't already medical panels. My insurance company dictates what medicine I can have and if my doctor insists on another medication because that is what I need, I have to pay more because the "panel" dictates otherwise.
Ignorance...
The people below don't realize (or just don't care about) is that the panel who made this decision consisted mostly of accountants, statisticians and bureaucrats.
The American Cancer Society is a non-profit group that includea a significant population of physicians and their claims are based on science.
Apparently some people prefer to have bureaucrats and politicians make health care decisions on their behalf.
"American Cancer Society Responds to Changes to USPSTF Mammography Guidelines"
""The American Cancer Society continues to recommend annual screening using mammography and clinical breast examination for all women beginning at age 40. Our experts make this recommendation having reviewed virtually all the same data reviewed by the USPSTF, but also additional data that the USPSTF did not consider."
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_2_1x_American_Cancer_Society_Responds_to_Changes_to_USPSTF_Mammography_Guidelines.asp
I think that Finley has "hit the nail on the head" and the posters below are either ignoring opinions from REAL experts or are so enamoured with the idea of "free government health insurance" that they don't care about consequences...
THEY are the ones who should be ashamed of themslves...
I agree, shame on you Mr. Finley
When you go to the doctor and they tap your knee, do you blurt out "Obama's fault"?
