Health care plan tramples civil liberties
I'm surprised civil libertarians aren't leading the charge against the health care reform plans being formulated in Congress.
At the heart of the proposals is a mandate that every person buy a health insurance policy or face a stiff fine. As the Wall Street Journal noted, if passed, it will mark the first time that individuals will be compelled to make a purchase in exchange for the right to live in this country.
Compulsory health insurance policies ought to be anathema to the American Civil Liberties Union. But the ACLU has been silent on what surely seems an issue that at least deserves debate for its impact on individual freedoms. There's no comparable mandate. If you don't work, you don't have to pay taxes. If you don't drive, you don't have to buy automobile insurance.
But the fact that you're breathing will trigger the health insurance mandate. That element is more chilling than rationing and death panels.
Americans shouldn't forfeit their freedom to choose, in the name of health care or anything else.

Heath Care Reform
I don't suppose these Government Idiots have given any thought to where the funds will come from to purchae Health Insurance if nobody is working. May I just say DUH !!! Bring jobs and people will buy ! Simple equation, don't you think ?
"Mandatory" health insurance
I'd have no problem at all with someone's "choosing" not to be covered by health insurance if that meant that he was also "choosing" not to receive life saving treatment in a hospital emergency room. But we all know that when that crushing pain in the middle of his chest makes him think he's about to die, he will not say "I chose not to be covered, so I think I'll just sit here and not call 911." When the State Troopers scrape him out of his demolished car, he won't be saying, "No, don't take me to the hospital, because I chose not to be covered."
As long as uninsured people have a "right" to be treated, it makes sense to make everyone take some responsibility for payment.
Gee, Nolan I'm really surprised that..
Your comments lack clarity but to take issue with the one point you raised about Dems attempting to suppress dissent from within their own party.
When you vote against something that is the benchmark of your party's ideals, then you should be called to task to either explain why or be shunned. Imagine Republicans voting for tax increases to help feed the poor or them voting against tax subsidies for wealthy defense contractors because of fiscal discipline. You see my point?...
If we just say NO
IF WE JUST DON'T PARTICIPATE WE GET FINED ON OUR TAX RETURNS OR TAXED ON OUR TAXES IN APRIL,,,,,CORRECT? NO MATTER WHAT HE WINS , WHETHER WE WANT THIS B/S INSURANCE PLAN OR NOT,,,,CORRECT? NO MATTER WHAT HE WINS, WHETHER WE WANT ANY OF HIS POLICY MISTAKES OR NOT.
SO LETS SAY NOLAN, HE LIKES PIGS. AND HE WANT ALL AMERICANS TO OWN PIGS AS PETS. AND HOLYBAMA DECIDES THAT IF WE DON'T ALL OWN ONE (1) PIG PER HOUSEHOLD THAT WE WILL PAY A $500.00 FINE . WE MIGHT AS WELL BUY THE DARN PIG BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO GET FINED FOR NOT OWNING THE FRIG-GIN PIG,,,,CORRECT, NOLAN?
AND LETS SAY, WE HATE SITTING HOME WATCHING CERTAIN ABC TALK SHOW HOST LATE IN THE AFTERNOON BECAUSE THIS WOMAN IS SO FRIG-GIN OPINIONATED THAT SHE STINKS BAD!!! BUT HOLYBAMA SAYS EVER TELEVISION MUST BE ON ABC TV AT 4:00PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, EXCEPT DURING SWEEPS WEEK, HE WANTS TO STAY FAIR. NOW IF WE DON'T WATCH THIS WHALE, I MEAN TALK SHOW, WE WILL BE FINED $500.00 , YOU MIGHT AS WELL WATCH THE OR-CA SHOW BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO GET FINED ANYWAYS.
I'M STARTING TO SEE THAT HOLYBAMA IS LIVING HIS LIFE LIKE A COMMUNIST, HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THIS YET, WOW, IS THIS STRANGE. HE HAS BECOME VERY SOCIALIZED, I HADN'T SEEN THIS BEFORE, I THOUGHT HE WAS A CLEAN CUT KID FROM REV. WRIGHT'S CHOIR. BOY HAS HE CHANGED, I GUESS THAT'S WHAT HE MEANT WHEN HE WAS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT,,,,,HE SAID GE READY FOR CHANGE PEOPLE!!! MAN HAS THERE BEEN SOME CHANGE, CORRECT NOLAN????
DAN1958-HAZEL PARK, MICHIGAN, WELL AT LEAST I THINK ITS STILL MICHIGAN, AND NOT MICHIGANZZEX
health insurance
The reason why the ACLU has not protested mandatory health insurance is: they are not stupid. Mandatory health insurance makes as much sense as mandatory car insurance. In both cases people assume financial liabilities they may not be able to cover. Every person living in the U.S. has the de facto right not to be rejected for treatment by a hospital even if he or she has no means for payment of treatment received. Mandatory health insurance simply insures that every health care provider receives payment for services provided. Furthermore it eliminates personal bankruptcy caused by medical expenses. IH
Health care plan tramples civil liberties
I to am shocked that the self-proclaimed protectors of American civil liberties are standing by while our liberties are being trampled.
The U.S. government has no legal authority to mandate that I buy health insurance.
No matter their good intentions.
That the ACLU stands by while the citizens of the U.S. are mugged by their political leaders is a dereliction of duty.
The ACLU should change their name to the Liberal Civil Liberties Union.
They are usurpers of the term "American". They are frauds and charlatans.
... and that's the way it is.
Gee, Nolan I'm really surprised that..
First of all, your comments suggest all Republicans think alike. To state the obvious, this is not true. I'm always amazed how Democrats and others:
On the one-hand criticize the Republicans for excluding some people [read social liberals] from the party.
And on the other hand criticize the Republicans for having differing views.
To again state the obvious, you can't have it both ways.
If a party is going to have a big tent, your party will have people with different opinions. In order to have a strong, vibrant party, this should actually be encouraged. To note the old adage, a strong leader surrounds himself with strong willed people. This naturally means there will be disagreements.
To me, the striking paradox is the vehemency with which dissent within the Democratic party is beaten down. The party that claims to be the party of compassion has no compassion for those members within its ranks that disagree with the leadership.
To wit, Dale Kildee of Flint. The man who bucked the leadership early in his career has been permanently banished from the inner sanctum of party leadership.
Or examine the leadership of any union local. Walk into a union hall and try standing up in a meeting and disagreeing with the leaders in front of the room. See what kind of a reception you get.
Democrat's action often does not match their rhetoric.
Gee, Nolan I'm really surprised that..
..you aren't more outraged that the "socialized public insurance option", more commonly referred to as FEMA flood insurance is supported by so many Republicans and yet the health insurance public option is so reviled.
Amazing what campaign contributions can do for a person's perspective!!
Speaking about Health Care on a more localized front...
I am a bit disturbed by our elitist state government employees and decision-makers. We are always facing a crisis each year because legislators borrow from the future on a fairly regular basis while thinking they can slip more taxes, fees, and fines in place to solve the crisis over the non-election years.
Instead lets look at health and reject forced health care, lets also reject Andy Dillon's position to tax GROSS RECEIPTS of physicians, and lets squarely start to reduce recurring liabilities to help solve Michigan's crisis.
I took some time and sent this to all of the Michigan Representatives to see how many of them would do the right thing. http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs070/1102459575011/archive/1102736238774.html What do you think they are going to do?
