Honor Conyers for her contribution to Novi

The Detroit Auto Dealers Association seems plenty serious about moving the North American International Auto Show to Novi if Detroit doesnââ,¬â"¢t come up with a Cobo Center solution soon. The folks at Rock Financial Center have the shovels waiting to go in the ground on an 800,000-square-foot expansion to accommodate the auto show.

It would be a major coup for western Oakland County and would turn the Rock center into a major convention venue. That means more hotels and restaurants for the surrounding communities.

And none of it would be possible without Monica Conyers.

The Detroit City Council president's peculiar view of her city's place in the world derailed the deal that would have saved Cobo and kept the auto show in Detroit.

So here's my thought: To recognize her contribution to the future success of Novi, it seems only fitting to rename the expanded facility there the Monica Conyers Center. Give credit where it's due.

Monica's not alone

Light a candle? The only candle to be lit is under Monica Conyers' @ss and it should be lit by Dave Bing! Don't blame Finley for Detroit's arrogance and pompous attitude toward the suburbs. Detroit buried this deal on their own without any help from Brooks Patterson, Robert Ficano OR the Detroit News...

The Moronica Conyers Center

Actually, Nolan, I find you to be very funny! And you've hit the nail on the head. MoRONica single-handedly helped to ensure that the Cobo deal would die. She cries 'foul' when the parties involved in crafting the proposal refuse to come back and deal with her antics. And, because of her self-centered, political aspirations, Detroit could very well suffer a devastating blow to its revenue stream...

Frankly, I don't think the Cobo deal can be revived. Even with Bing at the helm, a new mayor with an old council doesn't have enough time to approve the proposal. I think Novi is a done deal.

Congratulations Ms. Conyers!

Monica's not alone

Monica Conyers is an embarrassment. She is a disaster. The only reason she ought not be impeached is that there is no useable method for impeachment of a City Council member.

That aside, Brooks Patterson should be ashamed of himself for not trying harder to preserve Detroit. I know it is hard. I know dealing with the morons who are elected in Detroit is hard. But it is necessary for the good of Oakland County.

And Macomb County's contingent, anxious to appease its voter base of yahoos, is at least as bad. But Patterson actually might have the influence to help, if he chose to do so.

Detroit cannot simply be swept up and put in the dumpster. It may be well if it could. But it cannot.

Mr. Finley, it is better to light a candle than to mock the darkness. And, let's face it. You are a lousy comedy writer.
