Two-way street

Enjoyed the list earlier . . . until my co-diner noted pointedly that a few guidelines (no flirting, no joking, no touching) also apply to patrons.

Who, me?

All I know is that I want that empty plate left alone 'til everyone has finished . . . and I always wince at "Good choice."

Valenzuela's Cy Young nod

You point out another glaring example of the big market coastal teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets getting all the media hype for their teams and players while ignoring the teams in-between, in fly over country. Let's see what happens this year with the AL MVP and Cy Young awards. I'm pulling for the Twins Joe Mauer and the Royals Zach Grienke but I suspect it will be the Yankees CC Sabathia and Mark Texeira or Derek Jeter. Let's see how it plays out.

Stefani

Reading this story and considering it's theory to be true; one could safely argue that Kwame was entitled to all the "fringe benefits" that he afforded himself to while in office because he helped to bring a lot of new developement to the city, which in turn added to the city's tax base. While most of us are glad Kwame's time as mayor is over, you can not ignore that he spearheaded the efforts that brought in some major sporting and entertainment events to our city as well as a lot of downtown developement. You go back into the archives of the Detroit newspapers as well as some of the national publications that gave him kudos early in his administration.

I believe as many of us believe that all his good has been long forgotten because of all of the wrong that came to light that happened during his tenure.

Mr. Stefani should be looked at no differently. If he lied under oath (which is what brought down Kwame), please, please apply the same principle to EVERYONE and not just the people that we dislike.

Obama-Nobel

As per usual with Obama, all style, no substance.

I wouldn't call the reaction upset

Sure you probably could find a few people "upset." But the vast majority of folks were either bemused or outright laughing.

The right didn't have a rooting interest going in and the left seems to have lost its stomach for supporting dissidents in third world countries that have communist dictatorships.

Cabrera should have sat

Could not agree more. Instead of the Tigers trying to sweep it under the carpet (like nobody would find out) they should have just been up front. This is what happened and this is how we are going to handle it. Case closed.

If Cabrera had a big game, would we even be talking about this? Clearly, not as much. But it's compounded now by an incredibly bad game. His poor judgment should have been dealt with by the Tigers. Not covered up. A message needed to be sent. Now it's too late.

Rhetorical question, by the way.

There is a hope that things will get better.

Lions seats

And your point Neal? Give me a break, go report some real news.

TAP, DETROIT, MI

I didn't think it was that complicated, but I'll be glad to go over it again.

1) While it's only natural to note that the capacity of Ford Field is 65,000 and assume that's the number of seats that must be sold to avoid a blackout, the number is actually lower.

2) It was more important for the Lions to get the blackout lifted -- meaning to sell the 4,000 remaining cheaper tickets -- than to collect a greater sum of money by selling the expensive seats.

Ernie Harwell

Neal,

In response to Ernie's daughter's request for prayers, I want to tell her that I have been praying, and my prayers extend beyond the request for healing. I pray that Ernie and his family could know and understand the amount of healing that Ernie's voice and character have brought so many of us over the years. Ernie - Dad and husband, grandfather, I'm sure - was away from his family a lot during baseball season. That had to have been hard on the family and Ernie on many occasions. The rest of us, stretching from the far South to New York City (Sarah Jessica Parker grew up listening to Ernie) came to appreciate that you know its a strike "because the umpire said so." We were calmed on many an evening and afternoon by his wonderful voice, after a hard day of life's usual frustrations.

I pray that God - the ultimate umpire - will know the right time to call Ernie's game. Ernie's calm acceptance of his fate is another lesson to us all. We pray for, and we thank, gracious Ernie Harwell.

NWA

Agreed 100% that people here mostly complain about NWA because it is what they are most familiar with. When I was a consultant, I flew every Monday and Friday; I have extensive experience with NWA, AA, and UA (the airline I would take each week varied based on client location), including being a frequent flier with each. NWA is definitely much better to fly than UA or AA. I have no connection to NWA other than being a flyer, but every time I hear people hear complain about how NWA is the worst, I defend NWA. Obviously they don't do everything right all of the time, but overall I've had a significantly better experience with NWA than the other major airlines I know. Glad to hear someone else speak up on the subject!

Also, not sure if this was an NWA or a Delta initiative (I still call it NWA, but I still call DTE "Pine Knob", too...), but last week I was able to get my e-ticket sent to my mobile phone. I was then able to scan my phone display to check bags, get through security, and board the airplane. First time I've see this anywhere-- pretty cool!

Tlaib recall

JoeBlog works for Moroun too, although claims he doesn't (like Mongo). He is on the non-public arm of Moroun's propaganda machine, spreading lies and rumors about the benefits of the Ambassador Bridge, and smear campaigns against anyone that opposes Moroun.

Mongo paid by bridge company

Thank you Neal Rubin.

I can't imagine that a man who doesn't live in our district will attempt to remove my representative, who is well liked and respected and appreciated. Rashida Tlaib really does speak for the majority of southwest Detroit.

Tlaib Recall

"making the public pay for a recall election"....seriously??? What about making the public pay for the DRIC bridge when Moroun is willing to build a second span with his own money! Not to mention the fact that the DRIC bridge has proven to be completely unneccesary!!! This article is complete (((EDITOR'S NOTE: CAPITALIZED CRUDE WORD TO DISPLAY AUTHOR'S DEFT TOUCH WITH THE LANGUAGE)))! Where's the journalistic integrity? Report the facts...

WSU-Detroit, Madison Heights, MI

You're missing the point. Also, don't be vulgar on my Web site, lest I pound my mighty keys and make you disappear altogether.

As far as I'm concerned, they can both build bridges. So can you, after you explain why Ambassador II is necessary but DRIC is not. What's undeniably greasy here is for a political consultant who doesn't live in Rashida Tlaib's district to initiate or even threaten a recall based on a single issue on which he's being paid to take a side.
