A Great Detroit Day @ The Harvest Beer Festival and Beyond
The beer festival was great as was the entire day. I got up early yesterday and drove into Detroit from Chicago. Arrived at my buddy Eric's house at 12 30 and we almost immediately left for Eastern Market. The weather was heinous. Windy, rainy, cold and perfect for beer! We started at the first tent and went progressively down the line trying as many varieties as we could. We went about 2 hours and were nicely buzzed when we decided to go to the food tent. We chose Detroit Brewing Company's offerings: 3 pulled pork sliders, topped with cole slaw and spicy bbq sauce, with a side of tart pickle chips. AMAZING!
Anyway, we stayed for about 4 hours braving the elements. The bands were perfect for the scene and it was great to see all sorts of people hanging out in Detroit, wearing Detroit sports wear and other Detroit pride clothes, like "Made in Detroit" and Detroit Muscle shirts and hats everyone was happy and the city was truly alive and was I was truly proud to be a Detroiter and Michigander.
We left there and headed over to the Westin Book Cadillac to drink at the Motor Bar. Unfortunately, the Motor Bar was closed for a private event, but the new Spa19 24Grill was open and we parked ourselves there, quickly made friends with the bartender and ordered Belvedere Vodka martinis and made friends with the patrons around us.
Anyway, we hung there for a few hours before heading a bit down Michigan avenue to Slow's BBQ. We got there at 7 30ish and the the bar was already four deep. We put our name in and hung out, eventually scoring two seats at the bar. We decided to just stay there and eat. The food doesn't need any more endorsements, it is just plain good.
After, we walked over to LJ's Lounge and ordered PBR in the can.
We then went to the Majestic Cafe to see Bump. We stayed for the first set and then left and headed to Gusoline Alley. We had a drink there and then, finally, we decided to end the night with coneys at National.
A great Detroit night! Can't wait for next year's Harvest Beer Festival.
