Friends of Belle Isle Aquarium to hold fundraiser

I'm a huge fan of aquariums and I was very sad when the Belle Isle Aquarium was unjustly shut down a few years ago, just after its 100th birthday. Thanks go out to MotorCityBlog for drawing this event to my attention.

This Saturday the Belle Isle Aquarium will be open for a charity event to raise funds to restore and reopen the facility (and re-stock it with fish). The party includes live music, strolling dinner, a cash bar and a silent auction. Tickets are a modest $60, or $100 per couple. Visit www.belleisleaquarium.com for more information.

Aquarium Event

Belle Isle sure has changed since when I was a kid.

My parents used to make us take home trash that would not fit into the garbage cans, and we'd make sure any paper on the ground - whomever accidentally left it - was thrown away. We were taught to respect the land.

My it sure has changed. I wonder what the cause of this is?

Where are the zoo animals, and the carriage rides?

Aquariums

Although its not in Detroit, if you like aquariums and zoos, you need to drive to Omaha, Nebraska. Their zoo is phenomenal, and yes, it has an aquarium. Its well worth the trip.
