Stanton on his concussion: It felt brutal
On his weekly show on WDFN radio, Drew Stanton said he's recovering well after suffering a concussion in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.
He'd also like to set the record straight: He wasn't puking on the sideline, per se.
"That's embellishment by the media," Stanton said. "I was a little bit nauseous, which goes along with the symptoms. I was never really puking my lungs out or anything like that. I was a little bit nauseous and I spit up a little bit. But nothing of any substance."
As for the hit by Tampa Bay's Jimmy Wilkerson, Stanton admitted Monday, "It felt brutal."
"But I never lost consciousness or anything like that," he said. "I was kind of just groggy and a little bit out of it. I feel good today. My head's clear. My neck's a little bit sore, but that's to be expected with kind of the whiplash that occurred. ...
"When I got hit, I thought maybe it just shook the cobwebs up a little bit. But it never really calmed down. And at that point the physicians came over and evaluated me and it wasn't in my best interest to go back out there.
Coach Rod Marinelli said Stanton is "very doubtful" for Thursday's game against Tennessee. But Stanton was asked if he could play if he had to. "If I was the starter, yeah," he said, laughing. "l don't think there'd be a question. But that's in my mind. And I'm still gonna be preparing to play like I'm gonna be out there like I've done.
"Tomorrow, when I kind of go through a workout and get my heart rate up a little bit, if my head's clear and everything's all right, then I obviously have a much better chance of playing."
