Lions re-sign Cason, Standeford

As expected, the Lions made a move to improve their return game Tuesday, re-signing veteran Aveion Cason and releasing Brandon Middleton.

Cason, 29, was placed on injured reserve Aug. 30 with an ankle injury, then was released with a four-week injury settlement on Sept. 4. He was eligible to return after sitting out the required six weeks.

Cason averaged 24.8 yards on 42 kickoff returns last season for the Lions. Brandon Middleton averaged 22.2 yards on 39 returns this season, with just one return of better than 40 yards.

With rookie Jerome Felton ready to return after missing a month with an ankle injury, the Lions also released backup fullback Darian Barnes and re-signed receiver John Standeford.
