The Lions -- and an ex-Lion -- go trick-or-treating
The Lions' annual Halloween party was tonight. Check out Fox 2 and Jennifer Hammond's report for a few laughs. (Update: Here's the link with the video.)
Jon Kitna, who lampooned assistant coach Joe Cullen last year, wasn't there this time, but John Standeford won top honors for his Michael Phelps costume. (Dan Orlovsky had talked about going as Phelps, but decided against it and came as Papa Smurf instead.)
But the special guest, as host Mike Furrey had promised on WDFN this afternoon, was the recently-traded Roy Williams, who came as Tatum Bell, dressed in a bellhop uniform with a "T. Bell" nametag and wearing a mock pair of Rudi Johnson's allegedly stolen boxer shorts. ("(Johnson's) were actually Perry Ellis," Williams told Fox 2. "But I couldn't find Perry Ellis this afternoon so I came with the Polos.") Funny stuff, and Roy said he "got the A-OK" from Bell before he did it. It's for a good cause, too, as the event serves as a charity fundraiser for the Mike Furrey Foundation.
By the way, another sidelight I forgot to mention last week. When the Lions made the trip home from Houston, there was a special delivery. Each player got a container of Blue Bell ice cream -- it's a Texas specialty -- as they boarded the team plane. Turns out Williams had splurged for the whole team before he'd been traded, but he went ahead and treated anyway. I suppose when you sign a $45 million contract extension, that's a little easier to do.
