45 mpg cruising in Ford Fusion hybrid

It may have taken 49 minutes to complete a 10-mile loop along Woodward Avenue yesterday afternoon -- and no doubt will take longer today -- but in the 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid, I managed to hit 45 mpg.

Even after two days of cruising in the gas-electric hybrid, the car had barely used a quarter of a tank.

Of course, if cruises in the future include hybrids, it will be a lot quieter -- and people may not get that heady feeling they do today, which comes from the excitement of seeing these old cars -- as well as breathing in the fumes they release.

Fusion hybrid mileage

45 mpg is a wonderful benchmark! Congrats to Ford for their success...

Now, can you put one in my garage for less than $20K?

Gas mileage

The mileage that your car gets depends much more on the driver than anything else. My 1997 Ford Escort Station Wagon gets 38 miles per gallon with 4 passengers on high speed long trips. It gets slightly short of 30 in city driving. If you drive with one foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator in an automatic transmission, you mileage will rot no matter what.
