The Attic is notorious for not paying any money. They must have been playing for the door. Years ago when the Musicians Union was stronger, you couldn't play a room unless you were in the union....and got paid union scale....which is way over $50.00 for a side man. It is too bad that there aren't strong union reps. anymore to make sure that these guys are in the union and making union scale.
What makes me laugh are these rooms that advertise for bands to come and audition. These rooms get a whole night of free entertainment....as well as the ones who have a "battle of the bands" in their place. More free entertainment. Sometimes you are lucky if you make $25.00 a night. It's just not worth it to be a blues or rock musician in Detroit.
