Wheelchair sports expanding across Michigan

I was pleased to read that opportunities to play competitive wheelchair sports are expanding across Michigan. At the conclusion of the article, Carly Cook surmised that people may miss attending these kinds of events simply because they are unaware of them. That could be true.

I have lived with a disability for 30+ years. I remember kids in my elementary school participating in a horseback riding program and a snow skiing program geared for people with disabilities. Beyond those experiences, however, I don't remember knowing any wheelchair athletes or hearing about any of these sporting activities. It's cool to me Cook earned a scholarship for her ability to play wheelchair basketball.

Don't think I'll ever be someone to shoot a hoop or bat a ball; I'm way too uncoordinated for that! Still, I'll do my part to keep the momentum moving. I'll spread the word. Please tell me if you have any wheelchair sporting news to share.
