Christine's writing "style"
Christine, I am not familiar with your writing, but from the few articles I just came across, I guess you're kind of a humorist. Writing about Monica Conyers and the missing office equipment, and later on her appearing in public; on Kwame Kenyatta trying to pay for costs related to his own transportation, and on a new DVD that may or may not represent that debacle of Kwame Kilpatrick are just a few things you've written on.
OK, it's nice to know these topics are out there. But why just bring up questions without providing any answers? If you think that the question about Monica Conyers that the public is just dying to have answered is whether she'll be back on her TV program, you must be living on another planet. People want to know when she will be sentenced! And while you do state in your write-up that her sentencing has yet to be scheduled, could you guys please do a little journalism work and find out why the hell not? THAT IS WHAT YOUR READERS WANT TO KNOW!!!!!
While most people likely believe that "the fix is in" and that she will not spend a split second in jail, doesn't the judge at least have to give her her "slap on the wrist" anyway? Could you or another journalist please check this out?
And what about all of the missing office equipment? It was a huge story when it broke in the summer, but now no one seems to care whether the equipment was returned or not. If she's taken the stuff, that's grand larceny! Thousands of people are sitting in jails for far smaller crimes. Could you or your colleagues try to find out what happened to this loot? PLEASE?
And you wrote about Kwame Kenyatta, trying to fund his own transportation costs. God help us! Is this the same Kwame Kenyatta that abandoned his home and walked away from his mortgage this year? As another reader pointed out, how could he afford the costs of his car if he's in such trouble with the costs of his house? As an aside, he's probably behind in his property taxes as well, as is typical protocol with most employees of the City of Detroit, as we've come to find out.
I'm sorry to be so critical, but your column reads more like a comment section to an article than a news story. If you are a paid journalist, you really owe your readers a lot more.
Detroit has been decimated enough by these charlatans. While light writing is certainly a welcome relief at times, the stories you've posted do nothing but beg more questions.
