It's a good thing There is NO City Council King or Queens!
What makes you believe the 'new adminstration' is not the continuation of the old joke with new actors?
The punch-line are the People of Detroit who vote these people in. As the results show, nothing was learned as a new celebrity name was elected to be President of the Council. Someone who could not pay rent and yet doesn't feel this hinders his ability to help set the city budget. And the People of Detroit still voted enough to make him President.
It's a good thing There is NO City Council King or Queens!
It seem to me that elected officials think that they are so intelligent they can say and do anything they want and not be called on it.
That simply got to stop right now!
Music in no way causes violence. If Martha Reeves think so she should explain herself for that statement. I'm serious when I say this. Someone needs to go to the city council table when she is there and direct that statement she said and ask her to explain herself!
Jo' Ann Wastons seems to be running out of statements by using that worn out "you need to go back to school" defense. Why do she say this all the time? Is she nervous?
If our elected officials like to give teaching statement like these we need to call them up on them. This new administration should spark these new idea.
Go ahead and put them on the spot. That is how we will put in end to the jokes and embarrassment.
In the new administration
Old Lovely Moho
Sad to say Monica Conyers is just a small fry version of the bigger fish like Cheney and Bush who should be in prison with Alan Greenspan. Just a few names who orchestrated the largest heist of the US Treasury in history.
Kinloch
Am I crazy or did the posting on Kinloch's new career get deleted?
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
"Birth of a Nation" should sell real well in Detroit except there's too many who can't stand the truth which hurts or wouldn't understand the movie on any level.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
Does the Federal Government have a series of Special Elections in the event of a premature vacantcy in the Office of the President?
Or does the US Constitution provide for an orderly succession of VP, Speaker, etc?
What about the State? If the Governor cannot finish their term do we have Special Elections for a successor? Or does the Lt. Gov step in?
So who's idea was it in 1997 to allow for Special Elections to replace the Mayor? It was nobody's idea because the Charter had already provided for the Succession.
So rather than admit their mistake, the government officials, legal community and media put this distress city through a series of needless Special Elections which yielded a harvest of Deadbeat Opportunists.
Bing Steel was going Belly up but not a single challenging question was put forth to Mr. Bing about the health of his comapny UNTIL a few days b4 the General Election. We the People were informed that unless Bing Steel could find a buyer they could not meet their payroll.
Aware people should have realised Bing Steel couldn't survive without GM being able to afford its Minority Investment Program. So suddenly Bing wants to begin a new career as Mayor but does not give Full Disclosure while charging others for not being 'Transparent.'
Pugh?
Brown?
This is what these elections have yielded. What a sad situation.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
Here's the plain Logic none of Detroit's legal and media community seemed to understand about the Charter.
IF there is a Clause for the Council President to succeed the Mayor in the event of a premature Vacantcy.
THEN there is no need to have Special Elections to chose a successor!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yet all of these great legal and journalistic minds had to take the Charter to court to have some judge decide who it turns out couldn't read it either.
Remember. The great legal mind and former Michigan Supreme Court Judge Dennis Archer was Mayor in 1997. Freeman Hendricks was in his adminstration. So they didn't catch this vagueness before it was ratified?
Its no wonder that Kwame Kilpatrick hired out of state attorneys when he realised that Worthy was serious. The Michigan Supreme Courts and the entire legal system failed Detroit because either they are incompetent or were too proud to admit this was a contradiction in the Charter which amounted to a Typo.
Here's the deal Perry Mason. Listen carefully Perry White.
The Special Elections Clause in the Charter is for Special Elections on situations OTHER than the Succession of Mayor.
The Succession of the Mayor was already satisfied with the Clause that calls for the Council President to succeed a vacantcy.
Special Elections are for Special Events having nothing to do with the Succession. It could have been anything like oh an emergency amending of the Charter to avoid the confusion and needless elections prior to the regularly scheduled Primary.
The issue is this issue demonstrates more than anything else the pathetic condition of Michigan, Detroit and its Metro area now that the safety net of GM, Ford and Chrysler has been removed. Our Big 3 covered a lot of incompetence because of the tremendous wealth creating machine that it was. Now, we see we have attorneys, judges, politicians and media watchdogs who can't read the very Charter they ratified!
And even here we have Freeman Hendricks getting the most votes for a new Charter Commission.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
And there's the issue of the 1997 City Charter. Nobody in the current government, the media or the city and state's political-legal community seems to be literate. For all those Dennis Archer Groupies this Charter was Ratified under his watch which included Freeman Hendricks.
Yet when the time came to remove Kwame and replace him nobody in these govt and watchdog groups could read!
There was no clause calling for Special Elections to replace Kwame. Such a clause would contradict the Succession clause which called for the Council President to succeed a vacancy.
Of all the reasons not to vote for Cockrell this was the main one. He couldn't comprehend the Charter and so led the city on a series of expensive and needless 'Special Elections.'

Apparently We the People of Detroit haven't finished paying Brown. After getting a $8.4 million settlement from Detroit he wants more.
IF he loved Detroit so much then why didn't he seek his job back with pay and some reasonable Punitive Damages?
Did he offer to serve on Council without pay?
There's not a single Detroit employee, even the Mayor who should receive such a settlement? How long would Coleman Young have to have been mayor to gross 8.4? How long for Archer? Kilpatrick?
How much money in salary would Brown have made from the time his suit began until retirement age?
So he runs and wins on our money and people are still clueless.
What a 'Birth of a Nation" type mess.
Detroit's choices get dumber and dumber on every election now.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
No wwtech. You promise not to vote again. What's not clear to you concerning the total lunacy of electing Pugh and Brown?
Pugh has also abused his position as a hughly visible member of the Fifth Estate. Consider that the late Walter Cronkite would have never ran for public office. The Press still pretends to cherish its role as an objective watchdog of government. The TV position of Pugh made him familiar with Detroiters as a trustworthy journalist and now we know he has trouble paying rent.
Rent WW at the Trolley Plaza not his 2007 Foreclosure! And how come a single man with no children and a lucrative job can't pay his rent?
Do you ever consider the severe financial situation this city is in? do you realize there's a new word 'Detroitisation' which means total political and financial incompetence?
Charles Pugh has less ethics than Kwame Kilpatrick because he has abused his visibility and now he is actually bragging about the votes the naive so foolishly gave him.
His only plan is to sell off what's left of city assets. His financial problems amount to his getting a Bailout from Detroit taxpayers.
IF a single man with no children with two jobs that pay over 250K/year cannot pay his mortgage.
THEN electing him to a job which pays 85K/yr is a scandal waiting to happen.
I advise Taxpaying, Property-owning Detroiters to pay special attention to the Deal-Making that's about to happen once these people take office.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
TruthandJustice spoke the absolute Truth. For those who voted for Charles Pugh after getting details on his deadbeat status long before 2007 should receive their own copy of "Birth of a Nation."
They are as clueless now as they were when they voted to 'Dance in the Streets" with Martha Reeves.
Applaud Yourselves, Detroit!
You promise not to vote again? And also, not to regale us with your all-caps tirades? Thank you.
Acting is For The Pro(s)-Temp Witches!
Dude! If I did not know any better I would say this was a movie set! That guy has gun and starting a riot and no police...I sware this looks supicious dude. Yea Right!
It is time that Detroit stop looking at the hype. We need to start looking at the results. When there is non we have only the hype.
Why must elected officials act this way?
It is because we forget that certain people are actually working for us untill they do something stupid. So if maybe you are looking here is some entertainment witches!
MOst elected officails stay out of doge untill election time when they just sit on their selves and do nothing all term.
At least we still have some public servants still willing to play us for fools. I think I will smile for the cameras too. Its Lights Camera & AAction!
Hahahahahaha aha aha ah ahaha aha ahaha ahaha ahahha!
Look People City Won't Let Me Pay For Gas! "How Do I Look!" Politicians....&*^%$ Them!
It is ridiculous to think that a councilman does not know how "His" city is run. If so he is not qualified to sit on the board.
I do not think that this Hon. Guy thought this through. If he did then we are in deep dog mess.
I just think that this councilman is playing on not only my intelligence but all citizens the "Whole" Detroit!
Open For Serious Discussion. No Singing Please!
RE: Request To Speak Before City Council About Discrimination Of Degrees By Detroit City Employers Civil Rights Violation & City Council Request To Investigate Matter Based On City Charter Section 4-109
Currently Detroit City Employers require that employee candidates have certain educational degrees. This is discrimination and a violation of Civil Rights. Employers are not granted this right by the government. Employers should obtain other methods of evaluating that does not violate persons civil rights.
The fact of the matter is that a degree does not always indicate the level of a person's skill or intelligence. A person may have chosen to self â€"educate themselves for a verity of reasons to exercise this freedom. One could be the quality of education given at such schools. Another could be financially, persons are denied federal aide because of certain crimes committed.
This discrimination says that people are not capable of self-educating themselves. This discrimination says that there is only one way to get educated. Persons are forced by employers who are not competent enough to design a proper evaluation method. This discrimination has a way of hurting those economically disadvantaged and poor.
Based on the Detroit City Charter Sec 4-109 the City Council may investigate any business affair in the City of Detroit. As a Community Activist I officially ask that the council investigate this matter.
