Maybe they won't win on Tuesday. Maybe they will. But one thing is sure: They beat the pants off assumed mayoral front-runners Dave Bing and Mayoral Kenneth Cockrel when it comes to delicious, presumably homemade, YouTube video.
Sharon McPhail, who is amid her third mayoral campaign, last week launched her own channel, SharonTVDetroit. It features four clips of her sitting in a comfy-looking chair, chatting about her work as lawyer, "issues" that waylaid the progress of her former boss, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and her theory about the power vacuum left in the region after the deaths of Coleman A. Young and Wayne County honcho Ed McNamara.
The site also lists the 60-year-old's age as 48, which the City Hall Insider presumes must be a typo.
McPhail's videos contain a few black-and-white pix from her career, but for up-close-and-personal, through-the-years retrospectives, it's tough to beat Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans. His video highlights his law enforcement experience, family history of civil rights and philanthropy, and reveals that Evans once had a mighty head of hair (1:30 on the video.)
Not to be outdone is the Rev. Nicholas Hood III. His YouTube video suggests that someone in his camp has nifty knowledge of iMovie or similar software and -- from the looks of the snow on his TV -- may not be ready for the switch to digital.
Finally, is this curious mish-mash of a concert by the Roots and Freman Hendrix talking to folks on the DDOT bus, which features the memorable line: "What'd you think about this bus?"
