For one thing the so called "fix" in 1981 didn't fix anything did it? Maybe we should have looked at health care back in 1981 but no one had the """"S to attempt it.
Hockey
Yeah, I guess their millionaires were better than our millionaires. But, if we banned non-American hockey players from US teams (and removed all of the Canadians from Florida) then Canadians wouldn't have any way to support their socialist system. The Canadian's would then go bankrupt and their youth Hockey program would fall into disrepair and chaos. We (the USA) would then prevail through superior training and nation commitment. It may take years, but it's worth the effort.

You know what they say..... everything is good for you and bad for you at the same time. Who knows what's true about all of that stuff. A few friends of mine and I had a talk about that the other day. We both know of people who chewed tobacco, smoked a pipe, or were avid cigarette smokers and yet they lived to a ripe old age. One of them was a distant relative of my Dad's.

The stimulus was to hold the unemployment in check in the short term. No one in the administration said it would created jobs immediately. They were always upfront in saying unemployment would get worse before it would get better...It's how the question is asked. CBS blew that one.
College Aid
When I was a college student I daily saw examples of the "bias" towards Aid for male students (in particular white male students). There were people who had 3.7 and above GPA's that because they were white males couldn't get any kind of scholarship meanwhile people of color and women were getting full rides with a less than 3.0 GPA (many in the 2.5 range and even some below that). 80% of the people I saw getting the "free ride" did not graduate.
But, to point this out was a sin for which one was immediately shouted down as a racist or misogynist.

Dear George, funny your article is about this today, I was blogging this morning on FOX 2 NEWS BLOGS. It was on their story line of the 17 year old that has, it appears killed a 3 month old baby, and it has made me sick!! My words, before they cut me off and told me to "CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR" WERE,,,,,, This is why we get sick of reading morning news stories about deaths like this and 50% of these deaths are caused by children raising children. And these are punks and drunks and should never be around any kids. If someone would have addressed these kids in the use of CONDOMS in Detroit maybe this wouldn't be as rampant as it is. As soon as I used the word Condom, I kept typing and the words were gone, and I looked up and the administration thing was there. Now as far as I know, the word CONDOM isn't a swear word or defamatory word or makes anyone look bad . It stops most babies from being born, not all but most. I'm no expert but if you ask 1000 Doctors in and around Detroit if what I said is out of line, what do you think they will say????
My God, how many children must be born into crime, drugs, homelessness and trouble? Are suburbanites so much better off, Yes, in most cases, but not all. If we fix Detroit, fix the housing, GET THE JOB PROBLEM GOING!!!!, and teach these children that having children isn't the answer, they have a chance at life. Obama will demonstrate himself to be little more than a jackbooted Bolshevik, as are most of his advisors and a good many of his supporters. They think that "They" know what is best for the unwashed masses and will go to any extreme to foist it upon us. Everyone should sit down and read or reread the George Orwell masterpiece 'Animal Farm'. Soon we'll be told that while we are all equal, some are more equal than others. Sadly the more equal branch is currently in charge.
It really is as simple as
"The Congress shall make no law..." Period. It really is that simple. The constitution does not grant us the right to free speech - it recognizes that the right pre-exists, and then proscribes the government from limiting it. It does not say the right only exists for "people" or "persons" or citizen".
This law attempted to limit that right, whatever the supposedly noble intentions. Therefore it was blatantly unconstitutional.
And regarding the hyperbolic reaction by some of the supposed floodgates that will open - pay attention, folks - you won't see much practical effect. Corporations that are companies (the corps most of the hyperblic seem concerned with) have shareholders to protect in many cases. This will attenuate overt political action. Public backlash is at least as dangerous as government backlash - therefore, companies/corporations are very careful about sullying their images with ads that get too deeply into political nasitness.
At the end - a win for freedom that will result in little changing from what we already see today.
Help Haitians Don't Steal Thier Kids
I feel bad that Haiti has to take time, money and resourses to deal with this lady, but while we will never know her true intentions, what we do know:
1) She was trying to slip out of the country with kids she picked up off the street. Which is clearly illegal.
2) Haiti has a problem with kidnappiping and human trafficing.
3) Aid groups will now have to take more time filling out paperwork and being checked out prior to getting work done. How many people will die in the future because the aid groups are waiting on paperwork. By skipping the paperwork she made it worse not better.
4) Kidnappers will likely claim to be on aid missions to get away with stealing kids.
For a lady with no experience in emergency aid projects, to just run down and commit illegal acts is unacceptable. If she felt that strongly she should have gotten in contact with legitimate aid groups and worked thru them.
The ends do not justify the means.
