Kia has new citycar, the Venga

Kia of Korea unveiled its new little Venga citycar, which is not expected to make it to the U.S. market.

Kia, and its parent company Hyundai, have been notching up huge sales successes in Europe thanks to government sponsored scrapping schemes.

As in the U.S., these Korean companies have done well providing the small cars which the public demands. With modern designs, competitive prices and long-guarantees, Kia has emerged from the shadows. As one its executives said at today's presentation at the Frankfurt Car Show, Kia is now physically sited among the major players, in one of the arenas shared with Ford and Renault. In the past Kia made do with "shabby back corners". Not any more.

The Venga, "designed in Europe for Europeans" will be produced at a factory in the Czech Republic. It will offer 1.4 and 1.6 litre diesel and gasoline engines.
