Landed this afternoon in Beijing ahead of the auto show and those horror stories about the bad air here are true. Descending out of a clear sky, we touched down in what the pilot politely described as a haze.
Actually the air is grey and murky, and the sun looks likes a dim light bulb. I've been here several times before, going back about 10 years and I assumed the authorities would have made some progress by now, but it seems not.
I can only imagine what the Olympic athletes are thinking as they consider filling their lungs with this stuff later this summer.
