Get the latest 'Dragon Ball'

In honor of yesterday's Youmacon post, I'm giving away the Seaon One and Season Two sets of the latest "Dragon Ball" from Funimation.

For your chance to win the uncut sets (they come with a rating of TV 14), send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Dragon Ball" as your subject line, and enter only once by Nov. 13.

Last week's "Mystery Science Theater 3000" has garnered my biggest response in years, but "Dragon Ball" is always popular. Anime fans, show those "Misties" who's boss!

Good luck!

Win old favorite 'Mystery Science Theater 3000'

For years, "Mystery Science Theater 3000" was destination viewing in my dorm/apartment. Who can ever forget "Manos: Hands of Fate"?

Never seen "MST3K"? Imagine watching a guy and a couple robot puppets doing the exact same thing you do when you watch a bad old movie. Only, it looks like they're in a movie theater, and you see their shadows in the corner as they heckle the film. With professionally (mostly) written one-liners.

This week, I'm giving away the latest DVD release, "MST3K XVI" from Shout Factory. The movies undergoing (usually) witty commentary by Joel Hodgson and Mike Nelson (and hapless robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot) on this outing are "The Corpse Vanishes," "Warrior of the Lost World," "Santa Claus" and "Night of the Blood Beast." Hmm, one of these is not like the others. The set also includes a Tom Servo figurine.

For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "MST3K" as the subject line, and enter only once by Nov. 6.

Good luck!

Who ya gonna call? 'The Real Ghostbusters' -- Win a set

Back in the '80s, we had dueling "Ghostbusters" cartoons.

Filmation, also working on "He-Man" at the time, reached back to an '70s live-action "Ghost Busters" TV show for inspiration.

Then came "The Real Ghostbusters," based on the popular movies. My little brother loved the show, which ran for 147 episodes. All of them were recently released in a box set made to look like the team's fire-station headquarters. That box set could be yours.

For your chance to win the 25-DVD collection, which includes more than 12 hours of bonus material and other goodies, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Ghostbusters" as the subject line and please enter only once by Oct. 16.

Win 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'

This week saw the release of the boffo animated superhero flick "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" from DC Comics and Warner Bros. (Scroll down for my review.) And now you can win a Blu-ray copy.

For your chance, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Superman/Batman" as the subject line, and enter only once by Oct. 9.

In the film, Superman and Batman must save the world from a Kryptonite meteor despite U.S. President Lex Luthor's best attempts to hamstring them, including framing Superman for murder and putting a $1 billion bounty on his head.

Good luck!

Win 'Samurai Champloo' series set

"Cowboy Bebop" creator Shinichiro Watanabe went on to create the popular series "Samurai Champloo," and you could win the recently released complete series collection.

Originally released by Geneon, Funimation picked it up and packaged it in a nice seven-disc set. Many of the "Cowboy Bebop" voices carried over, at least on the English dub.

Here's the company line: "Mugen's a buck-wild warrior -- violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin -- mysterious, traditional, well-mannered and very strong, as well. These two fiercely independent warriors can't be any more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai 'who smells of sunflowers.' And their journey begins."

Though not quite as awe-inspiring as "Cowboy Bebop," the show was a strong samurai actioner that had a run on Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" block.

For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Samurai Champloo" as your subject line, and enter once by Sept. 25.

Take home 'Green Lantern'

This week's giveaway is for comic book cartoon fans.

It's the Blu-ray version of "Green Lantern: First Flight," and it could be yours.

It's a pretty enjoyable look at the Hal Jordan incarnation, as I mentioned in my review.

For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Green Lantern" as the subject line, and enter only once by Aug. 28.

Good luck!

Dance with the 'Devil'

It's been a while since I've had a giveaway, but with so many contributors, the blog has been full of geeky goodness. And I've been waiting for a good one.

For this week's lucky winner, I have the upcoming "Devil May Cry" series Blu-ray set.

I didn't watch the series in its original release, so here's the Funimation description:

"Cursed to live as both monster and man, Dante must spend his life fighting demonic forces of darkness. Brandishing his sword, Rebellion, and his always-loaded guns, Ebony and Ivory, Dante is more than happy to send the demons back to hell -- especially when there's money to be made. The wildly popular video game is now a series, and this time, there's no sympathy for the devil."

I know the game was enjoyed in my household, so hopefully the series will be in yours.

For your chance to win, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Devil" as the subject line, and enter only once by Aug. 21.

'Ponyo' opens today

Hayao Miyazaki's "Ponyo" opens today. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go to a critics screening, so I'll have to line up this weekend with everyone else. I should have a review to post this weekend. From what I've seen, it's pretty awesome. Roger Ebert sure thought so.

Win 'Law of Ueki'

"The Law of Ueki" originally came out in 2006 from Geneon, and now Funimation is bringing it back into circulation.

From my initial review for the first volume:

The show's main character, Kasuke Ueki, surprised me, as he surprises many people in this new series. Yes, there is battle after battle, but the four episodes on this disc don't get monotonous, and Ueki himself seems like an interesting kid with a good head on his shoulders.

Here's your chance to win the complete set, 13 discs. It's a doozy!

Send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Law of Ueki" as the subject line, and enter only once by June 26.

Good luck!

Swim away with 'Black Lagoon'

The first season of the awesome action series "Black Lagoon" is now available in a box set from Funimation, and I've got one to give away.

In my review of the first disc, I called the show "an exciting new action adventure series with great soul." The series held up for the whole season.

Modern-day pirates are a hot topic these days, though usually far more negative. The pirates in this show are in it for different reasons.

For your chance to win the set, send your name and address to ehenrickson@detnews.com. Use "Black Lagoon" as the subject, and enter only once by June 5.

Good luck!
